Dar! Dar! Dar!

C and I cruised down the 91 or up the 91 (however you might like to think of it) in the carpool lane and then jumped on 5 straight to Heaven to catch a Dar Williams Los Angeles performance. Got there before doors opened, had a cigarette (so did C), got in, had a Stella, and C had a Newcastle. A performer came on early-from Brooklyn, NY evidently. She sang her heart and vocal cords out and it was great. She gave me a joy I haven't felt in some time. Between shows, one more beer each and we were ready for Dar. It was at that point that C began chanting Dar...Dar...Dar (wouldn't that have been great). Dar did walk on stage eventually and with a good sized crowd behind us (we were about 10 ft. from the stage) she began singing in a beautiful voice while playing a beautiful song on the guitar. C was right...she can be down-right hilarious at times in-between songs while tuning. The craziest moment was when she called for cell phones to be held up to the chorus from a song she was singing in the fashion of cigarette lighters of old days. Let's just say I was even surprised to see so many people with phones ready to roll. I guess I never will progress with technology very well, I can see that already. C knew all the songs but one and I knew not but one, "When I was a boy" which was the last song she played before her encore. It was amazing and I thought of Aras and how much she would have liked it. Dar is fun, witty, and has some one-liners that make you feel like someone out there actually feels like you do some of the time. C and I were pretty psyched after the show and are hoping this will influence us to make our own music and soon!

I forgot you were going to see her--now I know how Christy felt when you and I went to see Patty Griffin!
