Mackenzie sent me a book of poetry written by a local(MN) author...her name's
Margot Fortunato Galt. What's amazing about the book is not how great the poems are...they're alright, but it's what inspired the poet. She wrote the poems after seeing the art of Delor Erickson, who's also a Mpls artist. The work she examined was his series of small paintings called Interstices, which came about when he noticed that the spaces between houses in Minneapolis were more interesting than the houses themselves. And that got me thinking...and noticing the spaces between what's been constructed...it's interesting...step outside and look at the spaces.

I love the flowers and the weeds and the vines that are everywhere between homes in our old neighborhood. Some people have more expensive landscaped yards and others let everything grow wild and take it's own course. I was a little sad when Gretchen cut down a lot of our "weeds" and put woodchips in their place last weekend. I reflected on the weeds as if they were roses.
